James Toback (2009)

James Toback (born November 23, 1944 in New York City ) is an American screenwriter and film director.

Origin and early years

Toback was born in Manhattan New York City. His mother, Selma Judith (nee Levy), chaired the League of Women Voters and hosted political debates on NBC. His father, Irwin Lionel Toback, was a stockbroker and a former vice president of Dreyfus & Company. Toback is of Jewish origin.

After graduating from Harvard with summa cum laude in 1966, Toback first worked as a journalist, then wrote scripts for Karel Reisz , among others, and made his first own film in 1978.

Sexual harassment through tobacco

In October 2017, over 200 women accused Toback of sexual harassment. After the Weinstein scandal broke out in early October 2017 , the Los Angeles Times reported that 38 women accused Toback of sexual harassment. Although Toback was in Hollywood as a womanizer ( womanizer ), as in the case of Harvey Weinstein but the sexual harassment had not come for decades to the public. According to the first report, the number of possible victims rose to over 200 women. Toback is said to have masturbated or raped in front of young women. Toback vehemently denied the allegations. He claimed not to be able to remember the women and events. By the end of October, the number of women accusing Toback of sexual harassment had risen to over 300. Toback himself made rude comments about the women on Breitbart News Network .

At the beginning of 2018 it was announced that there would be no charges against Toback for the time being, as the alleged acts were either statute-barred or insufficiently verifiable for an indictment.
