Erich Segal
Erich Wolf Segal (born June 16, 1937 in Brooklyn , New York City , † January 17, 2010 in London ) was an American literary scholar , bestseller and screenwriter .
Life
Erich Segal was born the son of a rabbi. In 1955 he began studying classical philology at Harvard University, which he completed in 1965 with a doctorate on ancient classical comedies. He then taught as a visiting professor and assistant professor at Yale University and the universities of Munich, Princeton, Tel Aviv and Dartmouth, among others. During this time he published literary works. In 1970 he made his breakthrough as a novelist with Love Story . From 1968 he wrote scripts for several successful films, including Yellow Submarine and the love story adaptation. In the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich and 1976 in Montreal he commented, former marathon runner, the long-distance competitions of the athletes.
His Troy musical Sing Muse! was performed in 39 performances on an off-Broadway stage.
He died of a heart attack at the age of 72 after suffering from Parkinson's for a long time . One daughter is the journalist Francesca Segal .
