The Pentax K100D is a digital SLR camera that came onto the German market in August 2006. It has a 6.31 million pixel CCD sensor, with an effective resolution of 6.1 million pixels. An 11-point autofocus system (SAFOX VIII) is used.

It differs from the digital Pentax predecessor models mainly in the image stabilization system Shake Reduction . The image sensor is movably mounted and can compensate for camera movements at the moment of triggering. Since the system is integrated in the camera housing, it can be used with all available lenses with a few exceptions . As the first image stabilization system, it is electromagnetically driven and can not only compensate for horizontal and vertical movements, but also for rotation around the image axis.

As with many entry-level DSLRs, a penta mirror is used as the viewfinder . Its magnification is 0.85 with a 96 percent field of view.

An LC display with 2.5 ″ and 210,000 pixels is used to preview the recorded images .

Shutter speeds range from 1/4000 to 30 seconds and B (Bulb: the shutter stays open as long as the shutter button is pressed). The manually and automatically adjustable light sensitivity ranges from ISO 200 to ISO 3200. In conjunction with a self-timer (2 seconds), mirror lock-up is possible. There is also a stop-down option for assessing the depth of field. Remote triggering can be done with a cable or via an infrared remote control .

The weight of the camera is 560 g (without batteries). It is 129.5 mm wide, 92.5 mm high and 70 mm deep.

Thanks to the Pentax KAF lens bayonet , KAF2, KAF and KA compatible lenses can be used with all automatic exposure systems. Older lenses with the K bayonet and many M42 lenses adapted by means of an adapter can be used with work aperture measurement.

Like the Pentax * ist DL and in contrast to the Pentax * ist D and the Pentax * ist Ds , the K100D and later models no longer support analog TTL flash units.

The sister model K110D is identical to the K100D apart from the missing image stabilization system and the resulting lower power consumption (supposedly up to 20%).

Pentax K100D Super

The K100D Super, which was presented in June 2007, is largely identical to the K100D, but offers two new features - firstly, sensor cleaning (Dust Removal System) and secondly, support for the ultrasonic focus motor of Pentax's SDM lenses. With the K100D Super, it is also possible to use lenses with the so-called KAF3 bayonet, which have an integrated autofocus motor, but which can no longer be focused using the camera motor.
