Introduced in the fall of 2004 digital SLR Pentax * ist DS is a further development of the Pentax * ist D . This model was intended to appeal to newcomers to digital SLR camera photography .
The display was enlarged to 2 inches and some motif programs were added. In contrast to the * ist D, the data is saved on the smaller SD cards , which means that the size and weight of the camera could be further reduced. The interchangeable focusing screen , which the cheaper sister model * ist DL does not have, as well as the pentaprism viewfinder, which has been replaced by a lighter and cheaper mirror viewfinder in the * ist DL and subsequent entry-level models , have been retained with this camera .
Firmware updates up to version 2.02 with support for SDHC memory cards of 4 GB or larger are available for the * ist Ds .
Pentax * is Ds2 and Samsung GX-1S
In August 2005, Pentax announced a slightly modified successor model that was originally only intended for the non-European market. The most striking feature of the Pentax * is Ds2 compared to its predecessor is a monitor that is enlarged to 2.5 inches. Pentax also made additional firmware changes to the * ist Ds2 available for the * ist Ds. In Europe initially only the identical sister model Samsung GX-1S was offered, but in autumn 2006 the * istDs2 was also launched.
