The book of 1000 books is a reading canon of literary works that was edited by Joachim Kaiser and developed with the collaboration of a team of authors. The book was published by Harenberg-Verlag in Dortmund . It contains table of contents and further information on works from the entire history of literature. This includes novels , dramas , short stories , non-fiction books , travelogues and children's books . It is arranged alphabetically by author and contains up to 1070 books due to different editions.

construction

The works are sorted alphabetically by author or by book title in the case of anonymous works. After an introduction about the author, at least one work is described in detail. For this purpose, comparable works by other authors or by the same author are briefly presented in numerous info boxes.

The description of a work is divided into a short description, the history of its creation, a table of contents and an explanation of the effect of the work. Furthermore, the works are enriched by illustrations of the authors, book covers or excerpts from film adaptations based on the books.
