Isabella Nadolny

Isabella Nadolny (born Peltzer ; born May 26, 1917 in Munich , † July 31, 2004 in Traunstein ) was a German writer and translator .

Life

Isabella Nadolny came from the upper middle class Peltzer family ; her father was a painter , her great-grandfather was the cloth manufacturer Napoléon Peltzer, who emigrated to Russia . In the 1930s, the family ran into material difficulties; Isabella Peltzer worked as a secretary in a ministry in Berlin . In 1941 she married the writer Burkhard Nadolny ; from this marriage a son, the writer Sten Nadolny , emerged. From 1951 she published features articles and short stories, from 1959 novels. Since the 1960s, the focus of her work has been on translating light literature from English.

Isabella Nadolny lived in Chieming am Chiemsee . There is the house and the tree that gave her most famous book "A tree grows over the roof" the name. She is buried in the small cemetery in Stöttham .

Every year in January and February, the Chieming Tourist Info organizes literary hikes "In the footsteps of Isabella Nadolny".
