Willy Breinholst

Willy Breinholst (born June 27, 1918 in Grønholt, Fredensborg Kommune , † September 25, 2009 ) was a Danish writer who is best known for his humorous works.

Breinholst is mainly known for his books for young parents, which are each written from the perspective of an infant, small child or school child. According to his own statement, his two grandsons served as role models.

In total, his 165 works have been published in more than 100 countries and sold over 10 million times. He is the only author to date whose books have been on the German bestseller list for more than 450 weeks. Within a week, five of his titles were on Spiegel's bestseller list , which was entered in the Guinness Book of Records .

Several of his books were filmed in Denmark in the 1960s, including a. Elsk din næste (1967) and Mig og min lillebror og Bølle (1969).

Awards

Breinholst received various awards for his books, including a. the Lübbe Prize for more than 4 million books sold, the Carl Möller Prize, the Bulgarian Hitar-Peter Medal and the Icelandic Heimaey Medal.
