TS Cook

Thomas Stephen Cook (born August 25, 1947 in Cleveland , Ohio , † January 5, 2013 in Hollywood , California ) was an American screenwriter and film producer .

Life

Cook began his work in the film business in 1976 with a screenplay for the television series Baretta . In 1978 a script for an episode of the series The Paper Chase followed , and the following year he participated in The China Syndrome , his only cinema production. Subsequently, he was exclusively involved in television productions until 2008. The script for the 1995 film The Honor to Fly is based on a story by Cook.

For the screenplay for The China Syndrome , Cook and his colleagues Mike Gray and James Bridges were nominated for an Oscar in 1980 in the category Best Original Screenplay. In the same year they also received a nomination for the BAFTA Film Award and the Golden Globe . The Writers Guild of America honored the three with a WGA Award.

Cook received another WGA Award in 1990 for his screenplay for Operation Nightbreaker .

Cook died of complications from cancer. He was married to the writer Marie Monique de Varennes and had three children.
