Harold Michael "Mike" Gray (born October 26, 1935 in Darlington , Indiana , † April 30, 2013 in Hollywood Hills , California ) was an American writer , cinematographer , film director , producer and screenwriter who worked on the screenplay for The China Syndrome (1979) was nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay , the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture Screenplay, the British Academy Film Award (BAFTA Award) for Best Screenplay and the Writers Guild of America Award (WGA Award) for won the best original screenplay for a drama.

Life

After attending school, Gray studied engineering at Purdue University in West Lafayette and graduated in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science (BS Engineering).

In the late 1960s he began his work in the film industry and was both producer, director and cameraman for the documentary American Revolution 2 in 1969. He had his greatest success with the screenplay for The China Syndrome (1979), for which he, together with TS Cook and James Bridges, at the 1980 Academy Awards for Best Original Screenplay as well as for the Globe Award for Best Screenplay and BAFTA Award for Best Screenplay and received the WGA Award for Best Original Screenplay for a Drama. Other well-known films that were made with his collaboration were Wavelength (1983, director), Cusack - Der Schweigsame (1985, screenplay) and The Man from Another Star ( TV series 1986 to 1987, producer). In addition, between 1988 and 1989 he produced 13 episodes of the science fiction series Spaceship Enterprise: The Next Century .

Gray, who also served as chair of Common Sense for Drug Policy and served on the advisory board of the Marijuana Policy Project , also authored The Warning: Accident at Three Mile Island (1982), Angle of Attack: Harrison Storms and the Race to the Moon (1992), Drug Crazy: How We Got Into This Mess and How We Can Get Out (1998) and The Death Penalty Game: Criminal Justice and the Luck of the Draw (2001).

Gray was married with one son.
