action

Eddie Cusack works for the Chicago Police Department and wants to put the dangerous Colombian drug dealer Luis Camacho under lock and key. After planning an undercover operation for six months, it ends - with the intervention of a third party - in a bloodbath. Because Tony Luna, also a rich gang boss, has the mafiosi shot during the drug deal. In addition, drunk Cragie, one of Cusack's men, accidentally shot a teenage boy while on duty. Cusack refuses to sign a petition pardoning Cragie because he believes Cragie is a threat. Therefore, Cusack is initially avoided by his colleagues. For Luis Camacho, the death of his eight colleagues is devastating. Only his brother Victor survived. Filled with feelings of revenge, he accuses Cusack and Luna of this act. A war between the two Mafia clans begins. Diana Luna, Tony's daughter, is pursued by Eddie. He suspects that Luis wants to kidnap her to kill Tony. Eddie begins to investigate against the will of his angry colleagues from now on. During this time, the rocket-armed mini-tank "The Prowler" will be completed. After a breakneck chase, Cusack wins Diana's trust. But her mother is murdered by Luis and his henchmen. Tony disappears from the line of fire and Dorato, a good buddy and police colleague of Eddie, is ready to house the daughter of the Mafia boss. But he too is murdered by the enemy. Cusack breaks into Louis Bar. Here he bleeds Victor Comacho's nose and starts a fight with a dozen other men. But he has no chance on his own and is overwhelmed. When Tony arrives, he demands Luis to extradite Diana, but instead gets Eddie. Thereupon the now freed Cusack hunts Tony and accidentally kills him in a traffic accident. He also reports this to the Camachos. Then he steals the Prowler and attacks Luis in an underground car park in which Luis is holed up with his henchmen. In the course of the shooting, he manages to kill all members of the mafia. He frees Diana and takes her to a hospital. In the end, Eddie is respected again by his colleagues.

background

  • The script, written by Michael Butler and Dennis Shryack, was supposed to serve as the basis for the fourth part of the Dirty Harry film series with Clint Eastwood in the lead role, but was exchanged for another script by Eastwood himself. As a result, it was bought up by producer Raymond Wagner for around $ 800,000.
  • Like McQuade the Wolf (1983), the film was distributed in theaters by Orion Pictures Corporation .
  • The shooting took place entirely in Chicago and ended after around 8 weeks in the winter of 1984. The cost of production was $ 7 million.
  • In May 1985, the film ran in US cinemas and grossed about $ 20.3 million.
  • In contrast to previous films with Chuck Norris in the lead role, the reviews were often positive.

Reviews

"Mostly exciting action thriller directed towards the main actor, but which overemphasizes the acts of violence."
