Frank Tidy (born May 17, 1932 in Liverpool , United Kingdom ; † January 27, 2017 in Kent ) was a British cameraman for predominantly North American film and television.

Live and act

Tidy began his career in the 1950s as a stop-motion cameraman for a London-based animation studio. In this capacity, the man from Liverpool was also involved in the 1963 James Bond film With Love from Moscow . In 1965 he founded their own small production company, Valley Films, with Roger Woodburn and Peter Biziou . Subsequently, Tidy devoted himself mainly to the photography of television commercials, where he photographed an abundance (around 150 pieces) of clips under the direction of Ridley Scott . When Scott switched to film directing in 1976, he brought Frank Tidy over to him, and the two of them shot the film The Duellists together , which received extremely favorable reviews and also earned Tidy a BAFTA nomination.

Based in Hollywood since the early 1980s, Tidy photographed an abundance of very conventional entertainment films for both cinema and television - in addition to dramas and melodramas, often action-packed products with genre stars such as Sylvester Stallone , Steven Seagal and Chuck Norris - which, however, hardly ever exist displayed an artistic claim. Shortly after the turn of the millennium, Frank Tidy gradually let his career come to an end, and, most recently suffering from dementia , he retired to his home in the English county of Kent, where he died in early 2017.
