action

Jerry McNeil was saved from an accident by a flying reindeer as a child. He always remembers this event. As an adult, he is a college biology professor and is appreciated by his director. He is working on a scientific treatise on flying squirrels and therefore hopes for a permanent position soon. Jerry receives a book from a student who claims that reindeer can fly, which is contrary to all current science, but Jerry is enthusiastic. He organizes an expedition to the North Pole to test this thesis. He follows exactly the route described by the author in the book and can actually spot flying reindeer. Out of sheer enthusiasm, he disregards some important flight rules and crashes his plane. Almost unconscious, he is found by a Christmas elf and taken to Santa's realm. Little does Jerry know that the whole thing isn't just a hallucination . When he is introduced to Santa Claus, he realizes that he is seen as a new employee and does not intend to let him away from the North Pole. Only a true believer would do that. Actually, Jerry has no other thought than returning to his family. But here in Nikolaus' Reich he surprisingly meets the author of the book that brought him here. From him he learns that he is here voluntarily and that he prays that the “world will last” never find its kingdom. He also meets the reindeer again, which saved his life thirty years ago.

Jerry's wife and daughter have since received news of the crash and very likely death of Jerry. But Grace is convinced that her father is alive, because she would feel that exactly. She convinces her mother to make her way to the North Pole and look for her father. Against all warnings, Jerry's wife flies off with a pilot, and when they receive a distress signal, they inform the US Air Force, because they could be on site more quickly.

Jerry is still determined to return home and can ultimately convince Nikolaus to do so. He takes him with him in the Christmas sleigh and flies off with his reindeer. On the way they encounter the planes looking for Jerry. They too can hardly believe what they are seeing, and when Jerry jumps out of the sled and lands right with his wife and daughter, the Christmas miracle is perfect for everyone. This is how Jerry learned that the most impossible things can happen if you only believe in them.

Back in college, Jerry receives full honors for his research on flying squirrels.
