Robert Sullivan

Robert Sullivan (* 1967 ) is a New Zealand Māori - writers from Aotearoa .

Life

Robert Sullivan is related to both the Māori and the Irish through his parents . He identifies himself with the group of the Ngā Puhi and describes himself as multicultural in his identity.

So far he has published many different books, but all of them fundamentally illuminate and explore the diverse dimensions of the Māori tradition in the present, past and future in their own way. His style can be described as postmodern or as a further development of it and is particularly characterized by a great sensitivity and broad perception of sociocultural issues of the present in Aotearoa / New Zealand.

Star Waka is a concrete example of his work . In this lyrical narrative, the author ties in stylistically with the oral narrative traditions of the Māori and combines contemporary topics with traditional cultural concepts. In this way, in the style of an odyssey through the breadth of Māori culture, he poses the question of sustainable identity and home in the present. Therefore, all of the poems in the collection can be understood as a waka - the book embodies its own story.

In addition to his literary developments, Robert Sullivan's literary activity also extends to editorial projects. For example, he has worked as one of the editors of the online magazine trout since it was founded in 1997. In summary, it is important to note that Robert Sullivan - supported by awards and his professional career - now has an established and highly valued role as a writer in Aotearoa and as one of the most important Māori authors of the present.
