Art stains cultural festival
The Kunstflecken is an interdisciplinary cultural festival that has been held annually in September in Neumünster in Schleswig-Holstein since 1999 . During the three weeks of the festival, visitors can experience concerts, cabaret and cinema events, poetry slams and performances, as well as art activities and exhibitions in downtown Neumünster.
Venues
The events and exhibitions take place in unusual rooms, because a characteristic of the festival is to present culture in “culturally remote” places. Above all, historical industrial rooms are used during the festival. The culture festival is organized and hosted by the culture office of the city of Neumünster.
Until 2007, the events of the festival took place in a locomotive shed between historic steam locomotives. Since 2009 the “Werkhalle”, the museum depot of the Tuch + Technik Museum , has been the central festival location. A stage for the various events will be set up between historical textile production and weaving machines. Changing locations are used for the exhibitions and art events of the festival, e.g. B. a historic paper factory (2017), a former industrial laboratory (2008), the Neumünster town pottery (2010), the citizens' gallery and the old Holsten brewery (2009, 2011).

The exhibition program was determined until 2009 by the judged group exhibition "Art in Neumünster", in which artists from Schleswig-Holstein took part. Since 2010, the festival has focused on one area of the visual arts, for example in 2010 with the “International Neumünster Ceramics Symposium” and in 2011 with a media art exhibition at the Muthesius Art College in Kiel . Artists from Neumünster and the region present their work in the “exhibitions in the center”.
