Diana Ossana

Diana Lynn Ossana (born August 1949 in St. Louis , Missouri ) is an American screenwriter and film producer .

Life

Diana Lynn Ossana was born in St. Louis as the daughter of an Italian immigrant who came to the USA in 1937 . From 1970 to 1974 she studied at Eastern New Mexico University , where she received her bachelor's degree in English and political science . She then moved to Tucson , Arizona , where she has lived since 1977, and started a law firm. In 1992 she met the writer Larry McMurtry , with whom she has since written and produced several scripts as a writing partner.

On October 13, 1997, the New Yorker published a short story by Annie Proulx entitled Brokeback Mountain . Ossana heard this, asked McMurtry to read the story as well, and contacted Proulx to secure an option to write a script. Although Proulx saw no potential in the story for a film, she accepted. The script was ready in 1998. And after Brokeback Mountain was released in 2005, it was not only recognized nationally and internationally with critical praise, but also with numerous film awards. In 2006 , Ossana received an Oscar nomination for Best Film and an award for Best Adapted Screenplay . She had previously received an award for Best Screenplay at the Golden Globe Awards .
