Julius Bausenwein (born April 4, 1913 in Rimpar ; † November 12, 1962 ) was a German sculptor .

Life

Julius Bausenwein apprenticed to the Würzburg sculptor Ludwig Sonnleitner, Otto Sonnleitner's father . He also attended courses with the sculptor Fried Heuler and the painter Heiner Dikreiter and, out of love for music, the State Conservatory in Würzburg . In 1935 he began training at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich under Hahn and Wackerle. Here he won the Rome Prize and moved to Italy . He went on study trips to almost every country in Europe and North Africa, sought to exchange experiences with sculptors such as Aristide Maillol in Paris, with Georg Kolbe , Richard Scheibe and others. A private study of several months in Paris with the French sculptor Charles Despiau was also important for his artistic development .

He spent the Second World War at the front. At the end of the war he was bombed out in Munich and settled as a freelance sculptor in Randersacker . He later moved into his own house in Christoph-Mayer-Weg in Würzburg, where a larger studio was available to him. A great period of creation and presentation followed. Numerous exhibitions, both alone and with befriended sculptors like Fried Heuler and painters like Karl Clobes , soon attracted a lot of attention. This outside of Franconia, especially in Munich, but also in Berlin and Paris. He passed on the knowledge he had acquired to many sculptors in his own studio, including Reinhard Dachlauer, who later became an important animal sculptor .

He worked on various new church buildings with Meistermann and the Würzburg cathedral master builder Hans Skull.

Bausenwein died on November 12, 1962 in a car accident. In his birthplace, in Rimpar near Würzburg, a street was named after him.
