Vincent Church in Kitzingen

The Church of St. Vinzenz in the Siedlung district of Kitzingen is the parish church of the Catholic community. It is on St. Vinzenz-Platz, not far from the Lutheran Church of Peace . It was built as an emergency church by Hans skull . Today the church is part of the Kitzingen deanery .

history

The history of the church is closely linked to that of the settlement district . The development of the area south of Etwashausen began as early as the 1920s . Between 1922 and 1927 the first residential buildings were built around what is now Texasweg. It was only after the Second World War that the number of Catholics in the district rose sharply due to the refugees from the formerly German eastern regions.

As early as July 1, 1945, the chaplain of the old St. John's Church in the old town of Kitzingen was exposed to give the new citizens a spiritual contact point in the new district. On July 31, 1946, the Würzburg bishop Matthias Ehrenfried established a church mortgage foundation, thereby promoting a new building. Hans skull, the cathedral master builder of the diocese, was won over to realize the new building. The foundation stone was laid on October 16, 1949.

The benediction of the new church took place on October 1st, 1950. The church was consecrated by Bishop Julius Döpfner and placed under St. Vincent de Paul. It was not until the following year, 1951, that the parish was raised to its own parish . 1971 to 1972 and 1998 to 1999 the interior was renewed, in 1990 the exterior of the church. The building is classified as a historical building by the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Monuments .

The church presents itself as a simple gable roof building with a suggested transept. Unlike many other places of worship, it is not face to face , but is oriented to the southwest. Inside the building has an oval church interior with parabolic barrels . A three-storey bell tower was added to the eastern side of the St. Vincent Church. The choir has a small hall. Reliefs by the Kitzingen-based artist Klaus Rother were placed all over the building .

Bells

The ringing of St. Vincent's Church consists of five bells . They were all created in 1961 by the Heidelberg foundry Schilling and subordinated to various saints: The first three are dedicated to Christ ascended to heaven , his mother Mary and the church patron Vincent von Paul, while the other two are dedicated to the patrons of the expellees, Johannes von Nepomuk and Hedwig.

Further equipment

The interior of the church was fitted out gradually. In the 1950s, Julius Bausenwein from Würzburg created several reliefs. The altar, which was consecrated on October 1st, 1972, and a lecture cross were designed by Adelmar Dölger from Münsterschwarzach . In 1986 the church received a tabernacle stele, created by Alois Plätzer from Höchstadt an der Aisch .

The church received its baptismal font as early as 1950 , created by Josef Lehritter from Würzburg. The 15 stations of the cross were created in 1977/1978 by Willi Götz from Rimbach . Götz also made the stained glass windows. The year the organ was built is unclear, but it is certain that Norbert Krieger from Retzbach built the instrument. The organ has 21 stops .
