The Joseph Hohmann porcelain factory was a porcelain manufacturing company based in Düsseldorf-Derendorf .

history

The company was founded in 1882 by Joseph Hohmann (* 1821 in Düsseldorf ) as a porcelain factory and painting. The factory was located at Ahnfeldstrasse 121 in Düsseldorf- Düsseltal . In 1890 it employed 100 workers. In 1900 and 1910 Reinhard Hohmann was the owner. In 1900 the shop was sold by the Franz Hohmann porcelain dealer in Düsseldorf's old town , Flinger Strasse 20. Franz Hohmann (* 1816 in Düsseldorf), Joseph Hohmann's brother, had been a co-owner of the Hohmann Brothers porcelain factory in Oberhausen since 1866 . In 1910 the factory had around 160 workers and was owned by Rheinhard Hohmann. The factory was a member of the Association of Ceramic Crafts and was listed as a member of the Association of German Porcelain Manufacturers (VDP) in 1900 and 1910 .

Products

The Joseph Hohmann porcelain factory produced all kinds of tableware. The company's specialties were Indian blue and onion pattern under glaze. Cups in the shape of a trumpet (Modern Greek). In addition, there was the production of hotel dishes, painting and printing. According to the ceramic industry's address book from 1893, utensils were manufactured. A specialty of the company were hot fire colors under glaze. Model stores were maintained in Hamburg and Amsterdam. A specialty around 1899 was straw patterns on coffee and tableware. In 1902, the company was awarded a Silver Medal and the Bronze State Prize in Düsseldorf. All kinds of utensils were made around 1906. The specialty at this time was also Indian blue and onion pattern under glaze.

Factory mark

  • Press mark: VDP monogram in a circle with the number 15 underneath (according to the address book of the Keram-Industrie 1910). Straw decoration (Indian blue), hand-painted around 1910 on thick-walled crockery.
  • Blue monogram mark: H with two horizontal connecting lines, the second vertical line of the H at the bottom being longer and bent away to the left (JH).
