Denis O'Hare
Denis Patrick Seamus O'Hare (* 16th January 1962 in Kansas City , Missouri ) is an American actor , best known for his winning the Tony Award for performance in the Broadway - play Take Me Out and his role as Russell Edgington in the television series True Blood . Most recently, he played leading roles in the horror series American Horror Story .
life and career
Childhood and youth
Denis O'Hare was on January 16, 1962 Kansas City in the US state of Missouri and grew up in Southfield , a suburb of Detroit , Michigan on. When he was 15, his family moved to Wing Lake , Oakland . In his youth O'Hare was a member of the school choir and at the age of twelve had his first role in a production of the musical Show Boat . At 18, he moved to Chicago to attend the Northwestern University to study theater.
Time at the theater
O'Hare stayed in Chicago after graduating and worked there as a stage actor. In 1992 he moved to New York and made his debut on Broadway in the play Racing Demon after several regional productions under the direction of Richard Eyre . Soon after, he starred in a new production of Cabaret by Rob Marshall and Sam Mendes , which won a Tony Award. He then played the lead role in a production by George Bernard Shaw's Major Barbara . Denis O'Hare had his greatest hit on Broadway in 2003 as Mason Marzac in Richard Greenberg's Take Me Out . For this role, he received the Tony Award , Drama Desk Award , Outer Critics Circle Award , Obie Award , Lucille Lortel Award and Broadway.com Audience Award for Best Actor . In 2005 he won the Drama Desk Award for Best Supporting Actor in Sweet Charity .
Movie and TV
In 1993 O'Hare took on a small supporting role in the television series The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones . In the following years he played small supporting roles, but remained mainly active in the theater. From 2005 he increasingly took on supporting roles. He became known to a wider audience through his portrayals in Charlie Wilson's War and Milk . In 2010, he took on the role of Vampire King Russell Edgington on the HBO television series True Blood . In 2011 he took on one of the leading roles in the first season of the horror television series American Horror Story . In the third , fourth , fifth and sixth season he was part of the regular cast as the main actor.
Personal
Denis O'Hare's grandfather immigrated to the United States from Ireland in 1920 . He has American and Irish citizenship .
He has been openly gay since high school and married his partner Hugo Redwood in 2011 , a month after same-sex marriages were allowed in New York.
