Reviews

Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times on August 17, 2007 that the film showed high school in a plausible way rather than repackaging "visual clichés from Teen Vogue ". Many students would recognize elements of real life. The portrayals of Reece Thompson and Anna Kendrick - which viewers are forced to like - would point to promising careers.

Trevor Johnston wrote in Time Out London on September 26, 2007 that the author of the "wonderful" documentary Spellbound Jeffrey Blitz was less certain about the feature film business. The film is "attractive" and "fragile"; he avoids the route of a showdown , which suggests ambivalence. His tone is "loving", the dialogues are "balanced". The film is far from captivating the viewer.
