Colin Higgins (screenwriter)

Colin Higgins (born July 28, 1941 in Nouméa , New Caledonia , France , † August 5, 1988 in Los Angeles , California ) was an Australian writer , film director and screenwriter .

Colin Higgins studied at the University of Los Angeles in the late 1960s , where he took part in a scriptwriting seminar. His thesis at this seminar was the script “Harold and Maude” about the love of an 18-year-old for an 80-year-old. In 1971 Hal Ashby filmed the book with Bud Cort as Harold and Ruth Gordon as Maude. In the same year he published the story of Harold and Maude as a novel. Between 1978 and 1982 he directed three Hollywood comedies. Colin Higgins died eight days after his 47th birthday in Beverly Hills on AIDS .
