Mark Peploe
Mark Peploe (* 1943 in Kenya ) is a British director and screenwriter who, together with director Bernardo Bertolucci, won the Oscar for the best adapted screenplay and David di Donatello for the best screenplay for the screenplay of The Last Emperor (1987) and won the Golden Globe Award for Best Screenplay .
Life
Peploe began his work as a screenwriter in the film industry in 1972 with Der Rattenfänger von Hameln (The Pied Piper) and wrote the scripts and templates for ten films by 1996. Made by Michelangelo Antonioni , who loved Peploe's sister Clare Peploe in the 1960s, Profession: Reporter (1975) was based on his story Fatal Exit .
In 1985 he directed the short film Samson and Delilah with Bernard Hill , Lindsay Duncan and Vicki Masson as a director and screenwriter and was nominated for the British Academy Film Award (BAFTA Film Award) for best short film.
He had his greatest success with the screenplay for the film The Last Emperor, directed by Bernardo Bertolucci with John Lone , Joan Chen and Peter O'Toole : For this he and Bertolucci received the Oscar for best adapted screenplay as well as the David di at the 1988 Academy Awards Donatello for the best screenplay as well as the Golden Globe Award with Enzo Ungari for the best film script . In addition, he and Bertolucci were nominated for the Prize of the Writers Guild of America (WGA Award) for the best film script.
He was nominated for the Golden Shell at the Festival Internacional de Cine de Donostia-San Sebastián for directing the film Victory (1996) based on the novel by Joseph Conrad with Willem Dafoe , Sam Neill and Irène Jacob . He was also the scriptwriter for this film.
