Carl Foreman (born July 23, 1914 in Chicago , Illinois , † June 26, 1984 in Beverly Hills , California ) was an American screenwriter and film producer .

Live and act

He graduated from the University of Illinois . In the 1930s he became a member of the American Communist Party . Because of this, he was later the victim of defamation in the 1950s after being called to the Un-American Activities Committee . This meant his unemployment in Hollywood . A public smear campaign led by John Wayne finally forced him to go into exile in England in 1953. There he wrote scripts using a pseudonym . He returned to the United States in the mid-1970s.

In 1963 he directed the first and only time himself. The film was titled The winners ( The Victors ).

In 1970 he was appointed Commander of Order of the British Empire (CBE) .

Carl Foreman was married twice and has three children, one daughter is the historian Amanda Foreman .

In his honor, the Carl Foreman Award for Special Achievement by a British Director, Writer or Producer in their First Feature Film was given for the best young talent at the British Academy Film Awards .
