The man of her dreams (original title: Young Man with a Horn dt, Alternative title. The jazz trumpeter and rhythm, passion and love ) is an American melodrama and musical biography back to 1950. The Director led Michael Curtiz , the writer wrote Carl Foreman and Edmund H. North . The main roles were played by Kirk Douglas , Lauren Bacall and Doris Day .


The lonely boy Rick Martin develops into a gifted musician with the help of the blues musician Art Hazzard. After disputes with his band leader Jack Chandler, further professional and artistic success quickly sets in with the help of the young Jo Jordan, but not without private tensions with her friend Amy North. To make matters worse, Rick Martin tries in vain to play an imaginary high note on his trumpet, which puts additional strain on him.


The script is remotely based on the biography of jazz musician Bix Beiderbecke . Filming took place in Hollywood and New York City . Louis Armstrong made a cameo in the film. In the German dubbed version, main actor Kirk Douglas is voiced by Erwin Linder .
