Elvira Kent and her husband Michael are both very jealous. To celebrate their third wedding anniversary, they want to go on a sea voyage to Rio de Janeiro together . When Michael Kent claims that he will not be able to take the already booked voyage for business reasons, Elvira believes that another woman is behind it. She pretends to go on the cruise alone . In fact, she stays secretly in New York to monitor her husband and hires the young singer Georgia Garret to go on the trip under her name.

Michael is very surprised that his wife wants to travel to Rio alone. He fears that she is unfaithful to him and sends the private detective Peter Virgil on the cruise to shadow Elvira. The private detective and the fake Mrs. Kent fall in love soon after their first meeting on the Southern Queen .

When, during a stopover in Cuba, Oscar Farrar, Georgia's friend who was not in the know, unexpectedly comes on the ship, there are several misunderstandings that confuse not only the detective. Only when all those involved meet at the Hotel Atlantic in Rio de Janeiro does everything clear up.
