Fortunio Bonanova

Fortunio Bonanova (born January 13, 1895 in Palma , Mallorca as Josep Lluís Moll , † April 2, 1969 in Woodland Hills , Los Angeles , California ) was a Spanish actor and opera singer .

Life

Fortunio Bonanova was born as Josep Lluís Moll in Mallorca. He chose his stage name to bring himself luck and because he loved the neighborhood Bonanova near his hometown Palma. He studied music and made his debut in 1921 as a singer in Richard Wagner's opera Tannhäuser . With his appearance in the film adaptation of Don Juan Tenorio of the same name , he also became known abroad. The silent film was shown in New York City , among others . From 1927 to 1934 he played and staged several opera performances in New York. Then he returned to Spain. He finally left the country for the USA in 1936 when the Spanish Civil War broke out . From then on he concentrated on his film career as an actor and was able to establish himself relatively quickly in talkies. He played in movies like Citizen Kane , The Path to Happiness and The Great Love of My Life .

On April 2, 1969, Bonanova died of an intracerebral hemorrhage .
