John Briley
John Briley (born June 25, 1925 in Kalamazoo , Michigan - † December 14, 2019 ) was an American screenwriter and film producer .
Life
Briley is best known for his screenplay for the 1982 feature film Gandhi , for which he was awarded both an Oscar and a Golden Globe . He also received a BAFTA nomination for Gandhi .
Other feature films Briley was involved in included Enigma from 1982, Freedom Cry (1987), Christopher Columbus - The Explorer (1992) and The Horror of Medusa , which was produced in 1978.
He was also the author of the feature film Pope Johanna in 1972 , which deals with the biography of the fictional Pope Joan .
