Adlerflügel (original title: Eagle's Wing ) is a British western from The Rank Organization from 1979. The film directed by Anthony Harvey was released on September 18, 1981 in GDR cinemas .
action
Pike, a former soldier, and Henry, an experienced trapper, roam New Mexico together and set their traps. Henry dies in an attack, so Pike has to fight his way through alone. He can steal the magnificent white horse eagle's wings from an Indian chief, but gets it stolen again by White Bull. He pursues this and the horse.
A group of rich, boisterous whites are attacked by Indians; White Bull takes the group's jewelry and gold hand mirrors and takes young Alice hostage. Pike meets the robbed, but leaves them behind because the horse is more important to him.
A search party starts from a mission station to track down the missing group in the desert. White Bull outwits her with a trail of the trinkets, which she kills through hidden traps. Pike is insensitive to the jewelry because he just wants the horse back. White Bull and Alice approach each other, but he is visibly held up by his hostage. He finally has to face Pike in a duel, which he can win, but in which both are wounded. White Bull realizes that he cannot keep the horse and Alice at the same time. He returns to his tribe with the horse, leaving Pike and Alice behind. Pike has to realize that he can no longer catch up with White Bull on the fast horse and without Alice.
criticism
“The plot, set in the 1840s, has elements of the Western, which, however, become almost meaningless in view of the metaphysical dimensions that the film is striving for. The dramaturgy and image design of the incomparably beautiful and strange landscape of New Mexico correspond to this. "
The New York Times was not very enthusiastic about the film, whose actors, including "the very un-Indian Waterston as an Indian", "fit in well with their roles, but never forget the feeling of being rather out of place" . The film, which was deliberately limited to a few dialogues, was "just as oppressive in its silence as in the atmospherically thickened dialogue scenes".
synchronization
