Antonietta Meo
Antonietta Meo , called Nennolina (born December 15, 1930 in Rome ; † July 3, 1937 there ) was an Italian girl who died at the age of six and was born in 2007 by Pope Benedict XVI. as the youngest person (except martyrs) to date, the “Heroic Virtue” was awarded as a preliminary stage to beatification . Since then she has been allowed to be venerated by the faithful as a venerable servant of God .
Life
Antonietta Meo was born as the fourth daughter of Michele and Maria Meo. When she was five years old, she developed bone cancer. After her leg had to be amputated on April 25, 1936, until her death she wrote around 150 letters to Jesus and Mary , which are testimony to an extraordinary power of faith and which go far beyond the spiritual maturity of their peers.
Beatification process
In 1942 the beatification process was opened at the instigation of the female youth of the Italian Catholic Action and its president Armida Barelli . After completing the proceedings at the diocesan level, in 1972 her case was transferred to the Congregation for the Causes of Saints . Antonietta Meo's remains were transferred to Santa Croce Church in Gerusalemme , one of the seven main churches in Rome, on July 5, 1999 , where she was baptized on the Feast of the Innocent Children in 1930. They rest there in a separate room between the nave and the cross relics. On December 18, 2007, Pope Benedict XVI confirmed her heroic degree of virtue and declared that holiness is possible at any age and Nennolina had already reached the peak of Christian perfection in her short life.
