The Gurlaina Bridge ( Rhaeto-Romanic in the idiom Vallader Punt da Gurlaina ? / I ) is a high bridge reserved for non-motorized traffic in the Lower Engadine capital of Scuol and at the same time one of its landmarks. Audio file / audio sample

The bridge rests as a steel structure on two concrete pillars clad with exposed brickwork . It is covered with wooden planks. It stretches from the northwest to the southeast from the Chantröven district over the Inn to the Gurlaina forest and the campsite there. It serves as an important pedestrian link between Scuol and Vulpera and provides hikers with access to the Clemgia Gorge.

The Bosshard & Cie. 150 meter long bridge built in Näfels , which rises 35 meters above the Inn, was built as a hinged girder with three openings and variable truss height. The suspended middle section with curved lower straps is 36 meters long and weighs 460 quintals. The middle section was installed on an emergency bridge directly above the water level, then on October 7, 1905, it was pulled up on steel wire ropes and attached to the previously installed side sections.

The Gurlaina Bridge was inaugurated on December 17, 1905 with pageants from the S-charl valley and Scuol , which met in the middle of the bridge. The bridge was an expression of the heyday of the Scuol hotel industry in the years before the First World War . The Engadiner Post described the bridge on December 13, 1905 as follows: "It is a building that is as elegant as it is bold and will not only offer great comfort, it will also be one of the first sights in the whole area." In the beginning, private individuals had to pay a user fee of 20 cents .

Renovation of the bridge began in April 2020, but was interrupted due to the damage found. The municipality of Scuol is planning four variants for the future of the bridge : Variant 1 comprises a fundamental renovation, for which the three steel bridge parts would have to be dismantled with a special crane and repaired in Gurlaina . Variant 2 consists of a new bridge on the old foundations. Variant 3 provides for the bridge to be demolished, while variant 4, like variant 1, provides for renovation, but this would make the bridge narrower.
