Reformed Church Scuol
The Reformed Church in Scuol in the Lower Engadine is a Protestant - Reformed church , which was originally to St. Georg was ordained and was mentioned ersturkundlich 1178th Its traditional name, albeit not common in everyday language, is St. George's Church ( Rhaeto-Romanic Baselgia San Geer ).
History and equipment
The church is located directly on the cliff (Scuol is etymologically related to the Latin scopulus = ledge) down to the Inn . A previous Carolingian church in the same place burned down in 1258.
In the meantime, a Romanesque church served as a place of worship until Bernhard von Puschlav received the order to build a Gothic church at the beginning of the 16th century .
The Scuoler Church is a nave with a single nave . The choir is designed in three parts. The choir windows show Christ motifs of the Good Shepherd and the vine .
Around 1530 Scuol joined the Reformation , so that the Georgskirche became a preaching church .
Out of gratitude for the courage of Scuoler women during the turmoil in Graubünden , when they opposed Habsburg troops under General Alois Baldiron in 1622 , women are still allowed to sit on the right (and thus on the honor side) of the church to this day.

Scuol is part of Colloquium VIII Engiadina Bassa - Val Müstair within the Evangelical Reformed Regional Church of Graubünden .
