Urethral prolapse
As a urethral incident ( urethral prolapse , prolapse urethrae refers to a morbid protuberance of) the urethral mucosa from the external urethral opening. The cause has not been clarified, but traumatic influences are suspected . The prolapsed tissue shows up as a red, slightly bleeding fleshy mass. It can lead to urinary retention.
Urethral prolapse occurs mainly in young girls aged 8 to 15 years. In veterinary medicine, males of short-headed dog breeds are particularly affected.
The treatment is carried out by surgical removal of the prolapsed mucous membrane or by means of a silk ligature over an inserted catheter .
