Jana Brejchová (born January 20, 1940 in Prague ) is a Czech actress .

Life

Jana Brejchová began working in Czech films as a teenager. In the second half of the 1950s, she became a star in Czech cinema. Her big plus was her natural charisma. In 1958 she married the later highly renowned director Miloš Forman , from whom she divorced in 1962.

In the 1960s she made frequent guest appearances in foreign films, including in feature films from both German states at the time. For the first time she played at DEFA in Kurt Maetzig's Der Traum des Hauptmann Loy . Kurt Hoffmann's comedy Schloß Gripsholm followed two years later in the Federal Republic of Germany , where she played the leading role alongside Walter Giller . In the same year she played again in the GDR , this time in the DFF television film The Other Next to You . Directed by Ulrich Thein , with whom she was then briefly married. Two years later she celebrated her greatest success in German film with one of the leading roles in Das Haus in der Karpfengasse , for which she received several awards and in which Edith Schultze-Westrum and Wolfgang Kieling participated, among others .

In 1964 Brejchová married again, this time the famous actor Vlastimil Brodský . The marriage ended in divorce in 1980. Both appeared together several times, including in German productions. Their daughter, Tereza Brodská , is also an actress. In 1998 she married a fourth time, now the actor Jiří Zahajský . Jana's younger sister Hana Brejchová is also a well-known actress.

Brejchová has received many awards. The most important prizes include the German Film Prize 1965 for Best Actress for Das Haus in der Karpfengasse , two Silver Sails at the Locarno Film Festival for The Higher Principle ( Vyšší princip , 1960, Best Actress and Best Young Actress), and the audience awards in 1968 and 1969 as most popular actress at the Pilsen Film Festival and in 2000 the Actor's Mission Award at the Art Film Festival .
