In the Dust of the Stars is a science fiction film, which the Artistic Working Group futurum the DEFA and directed by Gottfried Kolditz produced. The film officially premiered during the Summer Film Festival on July 1, 1976.

action

The spaceship Cynro 19/4 sent from the planet Cynro reaches the planet TEM 4 after receiving an emergency call, but does not find an emergency situation there. On the contrary, the ruler of the planet known as the "boss" tries to persuade the visitors to return as soon as possible. Only the navigator remaining on board becomes suspicious and discovers on his own the natives of the planet who have to do slave labor in underground mines.

The occupation disagrees as to whether to support the indigenous peoples in their fight against the oppressors or to let the matter run its course. However, the occupiers of TEM 4 force the crew to leave in a hurry by flooding the spacecraft's landing site. The captain and the dying navigator must be left behind.

The film ends with the funeral of the navigator by the natives, who beforehand say goodbye to the starting spaceship like a deity.

Reviews

Friederike Haupt wrote in the Leipzig Almanac that the film was quite entertaining .

“The difference between two historical-social epochs should ... be made tangible for the viewer in the fable, but above all in the attitudes of the characters; The meaning of history and its special tension lay in the meeting of personalities of different historical and social orders, in the demonstration of the contradiction. But Gottfried Kolditz succeeds in creating this tension ... hardly ... The parable ... does not work. "
