Milan Beli

Milan Beli (aka Milan Bosiljcic) (born September 20, 1931 in Konjare / Užice, Kingdom of Yugoslavia , today Serbia ; † December 31, 2019 ) was a Serbian (formerly: Yugoslavian) actor who was best known for his DEFA Indian films has been.

Life

After finishing school, Bosiljcic began studying sport in Belgrade . During his studies he made his first contacts with film, since during this time many international adventure films and westerns were produced in Yugoslavia, the extras of which were mainly students from the Belgrade Sports University (such as Gojko Mitić ). In 1957 he got his first small film role in the Franco-Yugoslav adventure film "Burlak". The Italian director Alberto Lattuada , in whose films Bosiljcic made two early appearances, recommended that he attend an acting school in Rome, which he did for two years.

Bosiljcic, who spoke English, German, Italian and French in addition to his mother tongue, also accepted film offers in Germany in the following years. In the Federal Republic of Germany he appeared in the two Nibelungen films and the Karl May film " Winnetou and his friend Old Firehand ". From 1968 he got bigger roles from the East German DEFA . Here he worked as a villain in Indian films that made him popular in the GDR as "Milan Beli". The DEFA officials had changed his last name for the sake of simplicity.

In the GDR he also worked as a choreographer for the dance scenes in Konrad Wolf's historical epic Goya or The arge path of knowledge ; as well as an actor in the science fiction film In the Dust of the Stars . This 1976 film was his 50th film production. In 1983 he shot his last film for DEFA.

After many other appearances in film and television in his homeland, Bosiljcic (2017) stood there in front of the camera for a 20-part television series. In it he played a Hungarian king.

His son of the same name (born 1982) is also an actor and dancer well-known in his homeland.

At the height of his popularity, Milan Beli appeared on the covers of the GDR magazine “Filmspiegel” of the numbers 5/1973 and 11/1976. DEFA sold numerous star postcards with his likeness.

In July 2017, Bosiljcic came back to Germany for the first time in many years: at the “Karl May Festival” in Berlin he was celebrated as “the man with the arrow in his arm” (from “Winnetou and his friend Old Firehand”).
