action

In order to marry off his two daughters, a rich businessman puts all his fortune into a dangerous business. Unfortunately, his next shipment is robbed and he loses the proceeds from the deal with it. Out of desperation, he sells his last possessions. The merchant finally sells the portrait of his deceased wife in an enchanted castle. On the way back he picks a rose for his youngest daughter Julie from the park in front of the castle and is attacked by a monster. This gives him the choice between life and death. Either he brings him one of his daughters or he has to come back himself to atone with his life. After his return home, he tells his daughters what happened and Julie decides to ride to the castle to sacrifice herself for the life of their father. Against her father's will, she breaks up and from then on lives alone in the castle. In the evening a soft voice speaks to her. She learns that it is the monster and would like to see it, but this does not want to show itself. Over time, the monster falls in love with Julie and she too feels love for the monster. Julie learns that the monster is commanded by a somber voice. This urges Julie to kill. But the monster fights against it and with the power of love it triumphs over its animal instincts. But the resistance takes its toll until the monster is physically exhausted and dying. With her love Julie brings it back to life, the animal in him dies and only the human lives on.
