Josef Laufer (born August 11, 1939 in Les Sables-d'Olonne ) is a Czech singer, actor, author, presenter and entertainer. His full name is Don José Pedro Rodriguez de Montagnes de Laufer .

Life

His father, the doctor Maxim Laufer , who had Jewish roots, had gone to Spain in 1936 to fight alongside the Republicans in the Spanish Civil War as a member of the International Brigades against Franco's putschists. There he married the nurse Edelmiro Perez de Montañez. Their first son Josef was born in France. In 1939 the family went to England , where the father worked as a military doctor for the Royal Air Force . In 1947 Maxim Laufer went with his wife and children to his homeland, Czechoslovakia , and from 1950 lived in Prague , where he worked as a children's orthopedist . Josef Laufer received vocational training at TESLA in Vrchlabí and then worked in an institute for vacuum technology in Prague. During his military service he began to play theater in an amateur drama group and devoted himself particularly to pantomime . After serving in the army, he had guest appearances at the ABC theater in Prague and worked as a translator for Spanish .

He studied at the theater faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague . During his studies he founded the pantomime group RADAR. During this time his artistic career began with appearances in theater, film and television as well as as a singer and entertainer. Among other things, he received one of the leading roles in the Czechoslovak musical "Gentlemani". In 1965 he completed his acting studies. Since the late 1960s, he appeared in domestic and foreign entertainment shows and made several records. With his own band "Golem" he went on tour in Eastern and Western Europe. He also worked as a screenwriter and director for television. In the 1980s he played the main role of Egon Erwin Kisch in the TV series "Tržiště senzací", which ran on German television under the title "Marketplace of Sensations". Laufer also performed in the Semafor Theater in Prague .

His popularity, however, damaged the rather controversial affair with his song Dopis Svobodné Evropě (Letter to Radio Free Europe) from 1976, in which he praised the Czechoslovak communist secret service agent Pavel Minařík . Josef Laufer was on the list of employees of the communist secret police (StB) . as a trustee under the code name Vostrý, registration number 14 07.

Josef Laufer has been married to costume designer Irena Greifová since 1969 and has a daughter with her.
