Hopfenpflücker (original title: Starci na chmelu ) is a Czechoslovakian film in the form of a musical by Ladislav Rychman from 1964 with Vladimír Pucholt and Ivana Pavlová in the leading roles. The composer duo ( Jiří Bažant , Jiří Malásek and Vlastimil Hála ) became known in Germany mainly through the Pan Tau series, created from 1970 to 1978 in a German-Czechoslovakian co-production for the children's program on television . In the German-speaking area, the hop pickers first came to the cinemas on August 13, 1965 in the GDR.
content
Two classes at a high school in Prague work in summer to pick hops. The relationship between boys and girls who go about their work together on the estate and spend their free time is open and amicable, albeit sometimes a bit rough. When Hanka appeared for dinner one day in a pretty summer dress instead of in a work suit, Hans, who would like to win her over and who is considered the uncrowned “king”, tripped her up. The outsider Filip intervenes. Unintentionally, Hans brings Hanka and Filip closer to each other through this little incident.
Filip moves out of the shared accommodation and sets up a cozy home in an attic with "borrowed" things, where he can indulge his thoughts undisturbed. His greatest wish, that Hanka should move in with him, is also being fulfilled. While they are both ready to return to the community, it is too late. Hans betrayed the hiding place; Filip and Hanka, who voluntarily stands behind him, are expelled from school.
Production notes
The actors of the young people - apart from the main actor - were all dance and music students with no film experience. The interior shots were made in the Barrandov Studios in Prague .
criticism
"A film staged in the form of a musical with a remarkable staging format."
“A powerful and convincingly staged Czechoslovak musical, played fresh and natural and interspersed with many folkloric and national elements. I warmly recommend young people and adults alike. "
