action

The lucky fairy has her birthday and therefore wants to give people a special gift. She ponders for a long time what she should come up with and ultimately enchants two galoshes that fulfill every wish of whoever wears her. Your friend, Frau Sorge, has concerns because, in her opinion and experience, humans are not fit for eternal happiness. If one wish had come true, it would ask for a new one.

A good luck candidate seems to be a student who would like to go to a ball but has no invitation. A learning fairy notices the student's desire, with whom she is secretly in love, and arranges the galoshes for him. But it is not he who finds her, but the schoolmaster. He puts on his shoes and on his way home from the ball ends up in a bar , where his appearance causes amazement. When he also tries to light a cigar, which is not common in these lower circles, he is viewed as "Satan" and put in prison. Since he doesn't know that he's wearing enchanted galoshes, he doesn't even think of making a wish. And so no wish can be granted to him. Last but not least, the galoshes are even taken from him and they fall into the hands of a lighter who wishes to be in the place of such a lord. Before he knows it he is a young lieutenant who is now admonished to fulfill his duties. Since he lost all his fortune on the ball at the gaming table, he should shoot himself like a gentleman should do. All he wants is to be a poor lighter who doesn't have such worries. Without further ado, he's back to who he was before. Only he is totally exhausted and finally wishes to be able to sleep like a dead man. This is fulfilled for him and he falls into a death-like sleep, which puzzles the scientists and they present him to the medical students in a lecture. They notice the galoshes that the “dead man” is still wearing on his feet. When these are removed from him, he suddenly wakes up from his sleep.

This is how the magic galoshes get to the doctor's assistant, who is on his way to the opera. Once there, he meets his boss, who disciplines him for no apparent reason. So he wishes he had a beard like this one that he believed would bring him more authority. All of a sudden, a beard grows that is even more voluptuous than that of the doctor. In awe of the employees, he is now given preferential treatment in the opera and is placed in the front row, where the orchestra is far too loud for him. He escapes from the situation and ends up in the middle of the opera, where he tries to fit in as best he can so as not to attract attention. When trying to leave the opera stage, however, he gets much deeper into the scenery and wants nothing more than to be so alone. Without further ado, all those involved in the opera appear and the stage design goes completely off plan. Out of sheer confusion, he wishes to be in a steam bath, which is fulfilled immediately and he is very surprised. The lifeguard wants to see the entrance ticket and since the assistant only has an opera ticket with him, he has to leave the bathroom and is thought to be crazy because he thinks he is still in the concert hall. So he is taken to a lunatic doctor and therefore just wishes to be normal and when the galoshes slip off his feet, he is completely himself again. The doctor's clerk puts on his shoes and because his work is too boring for him , he wishes to be a bird, which is fulfilled immediately and he flies out of the window like a parrot. Amazed, he tries to come back to his office. Since he is put in a cage with another parrot and the parrot constantly babbles about wanting to be human, he repeats the words and both are transformed into humans.

The fairies are always close to the users of the galoshes, and the learning fairy is still trying to get the galoshes of happiness to the poor student. She manages to do this after a long effort, and the student, who anyway likes to be in his dream worlds, is not at all surprised when he finds himself in a castle full of fairy-tale beings, where he unconsciously wished himself to be. He enjoys his dream and is now trying to win over his princess, whom he has long dreamed of. As usual in fairy tales, he is expected to be the marriage candidate for the daughters of the castle. However, he should first prove his suitability and solve puzzles, which would result in the death penalty if not answered. He solves the first two questions with flying colors, but fails on the third. The executioner awaits him in the dungeon. When, according to the last question, he wanted the deepest sleeping pill, he fell into a death-like sleep and escaped execution. The learning fairy can wake up the student by taking off his galoshes. He falls in love with the pretty young fairy at first sight, and she promises to come to him forever in the human kingdom. The lucky fairy then takes the galoshes and disappears with Mrs. Sorge.

criticism
