Simi Garewal (born October 17, 1947 ) is an Indian film actress and television presenter .

Life

Born into a Sikh family in India, she grew up in England. As a teenager she barely came back to India speaking Hindi to become an actress. She made her film debut in 1962 in a film by Mehboob Khan . She starred in Hindi films in the 1960s and 1970s , winning two Filmfare Awards for Best Supporting Actress in 1966 and 1968 . She has worked with India's leading directors including Raj Kapoor ( Mera Naam Joker , 1970), Satyajit Ray ( Aranyer Din Ratri , 1970), Khwaja Ahmad Abbas ( Do Boon Pani , 1971) and Yash Chopra ( Kabhi Kabhie , 1976). She appeared in the Hermann Hesse film Siddhartha (1972) alongside Shashi Kapoor as courtesan Kamala. Her acting style was reserved and she embodied cool, elegant women. She did not appear in the usual dance scenes.

In the 1980s, Simi Garewal ended her film career and turned to writing and film production. She has her own production company, Siga Arts International, with which she gained national recognition through her Rajiv Gandhi documentary India's Rajiv . In addition to her Hindi feature film Rukhsat (1988), she also produced television commercials. Since 1999 she has hosted the television program Rendezvous with Simi Garewal for STAR TV , in which she interviews film stars and other Indian celebrities.

She has made a name for herself as 'The Woman In White' through her elegant appearances in film and television, often wearing white clothing.
