A happy family lives together: the architect and father Anand Kishore lives in a large house with his wife Kavita and daughter Neha. Neha was adopted by the couple because Kavita had an accident when she was pregnant and is now unable to bear children. In addition, the family friend and poet Somu always goes in and out of them.
One day a concern arises in Kavita. 5-year-old Neha receives gifts from an unknown woman who always waits for her before school ends. Kavita finds out her name; the woman's name is Nandita Rai. On the playground behind the house, Kavita sees Neha playing with this strange woman. When she confronts her, she learns from Nandita that she is the biological mother of Neha. After another short conversation, Kavita invites Nandita to his home. She stays with Neha for one night and planned to travel to Benares the next day .
The next day, Anand comes back from a business trip. After seeing Nandita, old memories come back to him. He met Nandita six years ago: it was on the train at night. He suddenly heard screams and wanted to look. A helpless woman was harassed by some men. Immediately he stood by her to help and they got closer. They had never met since then.
Even Nandita is shocked and confused at the sight of Anand. She confesses to him in private that he is the real father of Neha. She also tells of her past and what happened to her during that time: After the one-night stand , she disappeared from Anand's life. Her father wanted to marry the educated daughter. While preparing for the wedding, Nandita felt sick. The aunt becomes suspicious and, together with her father, they go to a doctor, where her father urges her to have an abortion , but it is already too late for that. Now she has no choice but to give up the child for adoption after the birth . After that, Nandita studied in Australia for five years so that her father would not marry her again. Only after the death of her father did she dare to look for her daughter Neha.
Anand is very touched by this story and tries to comfort Nandita and takes her in his arms. Kavita doesn't believe her eyes when she sees them both. Anand tries to calm her down. He also confesses to her that he has fled, and she leaves him on the spot.
Anand asks for forgiveness from Kavita, who finds shelter at Somu. There he discovers the divorce papers on the table. However, she does not allow herself to be dissuaded from her plan and so she is on trial. Fortunately for Anand, the hearing is adjourned and again he tries to win Kavita back. At this moment Nandita appears. She asks Kavita to forgive Anand because he really loves her and never wants to lose. And so the family is reunited and Nandita says goodbye to the Kishores and takes the train to Benares, with her the precious memories of Neha.
