action
Sitaram Choudury gives Radhakrishna the promise to marry his son Vasu to his daughter. But Vasu resists the marriage in front of his father, because Vasu also promised to marry his college friend Sonam. Reluctantly, Vasu and Sonam get married. After a short time, however, there is a dispute between father and son. Finally, Vasu and Sonam leave the house of his father Sitaram and go to the USA to become a doctor.
Many years later, Sitaram regrets not having prevented his son from leaving, but outwardly he remains hard-hearted. One day when Vasu's daughter Sita is at the front door everyone is very surprised that they would have expected Vasu earlier. This further disappoints Sitaram and stays away from his granddaughter. Sita takes the hearts of her family members by storm, only her grandfather remains stubborn.
It was not without reason that Sita traveled to India alone . She hides a tragic secret that she must soon reveal. In the meantime she has also been able to win over her oopa, who apologizes for his rough manner.
Everyone is still waiting for Vasu's announced return, but every time something comes up. When Sitaram wants to refresh his marriage to his wife Janki, he sees a reason to persuade Vasu to return. Vasu does not appear for the wedding, however. After the wedding, Janki dies of a sudden death in her husband's arms.
The anger boils up in Sitaram when Vasu does not even travel to his mother's funeral. In front of Sita, he insults her father. Sita can no longer bear the heavy load on her shoulders and leaves the house. Before that, she gives her friend Kashi the diary she has kept since her arrival.
To clear the misunderstandings out of the way, Kashi passes the diary on to Sitaram. Now Sita's tragic secret has been revealed: Sita's parents were killed in an accident. Vasu's last wish was for his father to throw his ashes in the Ganges . Sita's job was to win everyone's hearts so that they can cope with the bad news. Eventually, Sitaram and Kashi Sita stop to grant Vasu's last wish. Sitaram thus strews the ashes of his son in the Ganges and thus sets a sign that he has long since forgiven him.
