action
In honor of Princess Neel Kamal, the sculptor Chitrasen built a palace with statues that reflect the beauty of the princess. Chitrasen dares to hold up her hand in front of her father, the Maharajah. But he is outraged and has Chitrasen walled up alive in the palace. But Chitrasen does not fear death, but dies with the certainty that his love will continue beyond death.
Many decades pass when a certain Sita, who is very similar to Neel Kamal, visits the current ruins of the palace. Chitrasen's spirit awakens and wants to lure Sita to her. Since then, Sita has always sleepwalked to these ruins. Even marrying Ram doesn't stop her sleepwalking. Ram's mother and sister Chanchal become extremely suspicious, because they believe Sita is meeting a lover. From then on she is treated like a slave during Ram's absence.
Ram soon becomes suspicious and throws her out of the house. Only Chanchal's husband Girdhar shows compassion for the young bride and tries to make her life as a daughter-in-law more bearable. Despite all the harassment, she does not return to the house of her father, who always treated her lovingly and raised her well.
One day she hears Chitrasen's voice again and follows the chant. This time she remembers the life of Princess Neel Kamal. This memory breaks the spell and Chitrasen's and Neel Kamal's ghosts finally find each other. Ram, who had followed her, now also realizes that Sita was possessed by a former soul. Ultimately, everything turns out for the better and Sita is accepted as the daughter-in-law.

criticism
“Neel Kamal” still has what it takes to be a good film, thanks to the scenes with Raaj Kumar and Waheeda Rehman. The call of the spirit does not have the magical quality as in Madhumati , but nevertheless this supernatural love enhances the film. Likewise the songs and waheedas dances. The rest is a bit formulaic, a bit bulky and at times even a bit boring. "
