instrument

His instrument is a modified slide guitar , which he calls mohan vina , after the Indian stringed instrument group vina . It has three melody and four drone strings as well as twelve sympathetic strings that run over their own bridge . The structure is reminiscent of a sitar . Bhatt plays the instrument with a wire plectrum ( mizrab ) like the sitar player and uses a steel bar, as is also used in the south Indian gottuvadyam and the north Indian vichitra vina . This enables him to create the glissandi and nuances that are important in Indian music .
