Sukhvinder Singh Namdhari

Sukhvinder Singh "Pinky" Namdhari (* 1965 in Ludhiana ) is an Indian tabla player.

Sukhvinder Singh Namdhari was born in Punjab and grew up in the Ashram Sri Bhaini Sahib . Its director, Jagjit Singh Ji , recognized his musical talent and taught him classical Hindustan music at an early stage, and passed him on to the teacher Nihal Singh . After his first public appearance in 1978 he became a student of the tabla master Kishan Maharaj . He has performed with the sarod player Amjad Ali Khan (with, from 1986, the first albums came) at festivals in India and the UK and toured from 1990 with guitarist Vishwa Mohan Bhatt by India and the United States. Other musical partners were the sitar player Ravi Shankar and Vilayat Khan , the flautist Hari Prasad Chaurasia and the singers Rajan Sajan Mishra and Jasraj . He has also appeared as a soloist with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra in London.

He released more than 40 CDs. He can also be heard on Ry Cooder and Bhatt's CD A Meeting by the River (1993) , which was awarded a Grammy , and on albums by Hari Prasad Chaurasia, Al Gromer Khan , Wajahat Khan, Vilayat Khan, Scott Matthews and Shahid Parvez.
