Shyam Saran (born September 4, 1946 ) is an Indian politician.

Shyam Saran was Ambassador to Myanmar and High Commissioner in Mauritius . From August 2001 to October 2002 he was ambassador to Indonesia and from November 2002 to July 2004 in Nepal . Saran then changed on August 1, 2004 to the post of "Foreign Secretary" (State Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs) under Kanwar Natwar Singh . There he was replaced by Shivshankar Menon on October 1st . Saran has been appointed special envoy to negotiate the India-US nuclear deal.
