Khalid Hameed, Baron Hameed , CBE DL (born July 1, 1941 ) is a British politician from Lucknow , India and a member of the House of Lords .

He is a board member of Alpha Hospital Group and board member and CEO of London International Hospital . In previous years he was CEO of Cromwell Hospital in London .

He serves on the board of the Commonwealth Youth Exchange Council. He is a committee member of the British Muslim Research Center and the Ethnic Minorities Foundation. He is a board member of the Maimonides Foundation and a trustee of The Little Foundation . Dr. Hameed supports a number of charities and received the Sternberg Award in 2005 for his commitment to Christian-Mulimean-Jewish relations. He has received a number of national and international honors. He is the Governor of the International Students House, President of The Little Foundation , Chairman of The Woolf Institute of Abrahamic Faiths, and Chairman of the Friends of the British Library . Hameed is deeply involved in interreligious relationships and gives lectures on the subject.

He was the first Briton of Asian descent to be appointed High Sheriff of Greater London by the Queen . He held this office from 2006 to 2007. With over 1000 years, this office is the oldest in the country after the monarchy.

His nomination as a Life Peer was announced in February . He was promoted to Life Peer on March 27, 2007 as Baron Hameed , of Hampstead in the London Borough of Camden. He is a crossbencher in the House of Lords . He is British Asian of the year 2007 .

In 2009 he was awarded the Padma Bhushan , the third highest Indian medal for civilians, by the Indian government .
