RK Narayan

RK Narayan ( Rasipuram Krishnaswami Ayyar Narayanaswami ; Tamil : ஆர். கே. நாராயண்; * October 10, 1906 in Madras ; † May 13, 2001 in Delhi ) was one of the most famous Indian novelists who wrote exclusively in English.

Life

The author, who belonged to the highest Indian caste of the Brahmins , became famous , among other things, for his large number of novels, which were set in the fictional small town of "Malgudi" in southern India. His first work "Swami and Friends" from 1935 helped him achieve his brilliant international breakthrough. His humorous and energetic writing style is often compared to that of William Faulkner .
