Kershasp Tehmurasp Satarawala (born February 15, 1916 in Satara , † August 20, 2001 in Pune ) was an Indian governor and diplomat .

Life

Kershasp Tehmurasp Satarawala was the son of Meherbai and Tehmurasp. He holds a Masters in Political Science , was Grand Master of Staff College, Quetta and Fellow of BISF Management College, Warwicks, UK. He was married to Frainy. They had three daughters.

From 1940 to 1946 he was an officer in the British Indian Army . In 1947 he joined the Civil Services of India . From 1952 to 1956 he was a trainee secretary in the Indian Ministry of Defense. From 1956 to 1958 he was executive director of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission . From 1958 to 1963 he was Liaison Secretary of the Union Ministries of Commerce, Ind to Chief Controller, Imports & Exports. From 1964 to 1967 he was the secretary of Indian mines and power plants in the state of Gujarat . From 1967 to 1971 he was director of Indian Airlines, Hind Aeronautics Ltd, India Toursim Corpn, Air India. From 1971 to 1981 he was an advisor to the governments of Gujarat, Orissa and Jammu and Kashmir . From 1980 to 1983 he was a member of the Indian Wild Life Board; Natl Committee on Environmental Planning. From 1976 to 1983 he was Managing Director of Gujarat Aromatics Ltd. From 1976 to 1981 he was General Secretary of the Family Planning Association of India .

In 1981 he was a member of the Minorities Commission. In 1982 he was the coordinator and deputy chairman of the Asian Games . From February 24, 1983 to July 4, 1984 he was governor of Goa (including Daman and Diu) as well as Dadra and Nagar Haveli . From July 3, 1984 to March 14, 1985 he was governor of the Punjab . From July 27, 1985 to February 29, 1988, he was ambassador to Mexico with responsibility for Guatemala and El Salvador .

Satarawala was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1983 .
