Anil Agarwal

Anil Kumar Agarwal (born November 23, 1947 - January 2, 2002 ) was an Indian environmental activist. He studied mechanical engineering at IIT Kanpur and worked as a science correspondent for the Hindustan Times newspaper . He was the founder of the Center for Science and Environment , a research institute based in Delhi .

In 1987 the United Nations Environment Program selected him in the Global 500 Award for his work on a national and international level. The Indian government honored him with the Padma Shri (1986) and Padma Bhushan (2002) awards for his work in the fields of environment and development.
